Library


The Library of Maharaja Lakshman Sen Memorial College was also established on the day institution came into existence. The Maharaja of Suket State has handed over his library and buildings to the college. The library has been extended further to increase the capacity of the reading room.
The Library which started in 1976 with an initial collection of 1966 books has now grown up to a rich collection of 37638 books till session 2016-17 in arts, science, commerce, education, physical education, computer science, management and general/reference books.
We believe that the college library is a gateway to knowledge, and provides a basic condition for lifelong learning, independent decision making and cultural development of the students and the teachers. Focusing on the very important role of the library, our college library has been growing steadily over the years.

7. Computerization of library :

To keep pace with the strides of educational technology, library software Soul 2.0 is being used the entry of data. Data entries for books of physics, chemistry, botany, zoology, and physical education have been completed and data entries for other subjects are in progress. OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) and internet facilities are made available. For this five computers are available in the library for students and staff.


8. Library facilities for students and teachers.

(8.1) Home lending: The circulation counter for home lending is kept open between 9:00 am-05:00 pm on all working days. Students, teachers and other staff members can borrow books from this counter. Generally, undergraduate students are issued 02 books and students of postgraduate classes and professional courses are issued 03 books at a time for 14 days. However meritorious students can get 2 books in addition to the recommendation of the principal. Teachers can get 10-15 books issued for the whole semester/ academic year.

(8.2) Reference books: Reference books, competitive books, magazines and journals are available for reading in the library only. However, they can be issued overnight for students and teachers.

(8.3) Internet facility: All computers are internet-enabled. The library has 05 computers with an internet speed of 2 Mbps, student/teachers can browse e-books, e-journals and Wikipedia available through the NLIST programme.

(8.4) Current awareness service: Latest books/ magazines/journals are made available. Students can also demand for purchase of any latest books/ magazines/competition books, govt development reports etc.

(8.5) OPAC: The library staff helps readers in browsing the computerized database through OPAC.

(8.6) Bibliographic Service: A list of Reference books & other books is provided to faculty and students. A list of new arrivals is also given to respective departments.

(8.7) Book Bank: Poor and needy students are provided textbooks for one academic year/ semester under the scheme of the college book bank on the recommendation of the principal.

(8.8) Photocopy facility: Photocopy facility has been provided. Readers can take photocopies of the document at the rate of Rs 1.00 per page from the college bookshop.

(8.9) Reading room facility: About 52 magazines/ journals and 14 newspapers are kept in the reading hall for reading.

(8.10) Inter-library loan: The college library provides an interlibrary loan facility to its readers on demand to cater for the additional reading needs of the library.

(8.11) Drinking water facility: The water cooler with aqua guard has been established in the library for drinking pure & cold water for students/ staff members.

(8.12) Retaining books during exams against security is provided to students.


9. Other library activities

(a) Library orientation programme: Every year the library conducts an orientation programme for newcomers to make them aware of the library facilities available during 1st 15 days of admission while issuing identity cards to them.

(b) Book exhibition: Many times libraries hold book exhibition cum sale events to have a glance at recent publications.

(c ) Best reader awards: From the session 2016-17, the college library gives two Best Readers of the Year awards to the students who make the best possible use of library facilities and spend quality time in the library. The award carries a certificate and a trophy. The following students are the recipients of this award during session 2016-17.

10. Grievance Redressal of the readers.

(i) Consultation with the librarian: Students can consult the librarian for problems related to the library and its services. The librarian will try to settle them in his capacity or forward them to the principal of the college.

(ii) Suggestion box: A suggestion box is kept at the entrance of the library seeking valuable suggestions and recommendations from the readers. The suggestions made by them are taken up and discussed in the library advisory committee meeting and they are implemented accordingly.

(iii) Advisory Committee for the library: The library advisory committee plays a vital role in enhancing and developing the library services, making suitable policies that will help the library to render its best. The principal is the chairman of this committee. The committee holds two/ three meetings every year.
