Raja Lalit Sen, the sole trustee of Maharaja Lakshman Sen Memorial Trust and the founder of Maharaja Lakshman Sen Memorial College, Sundernagar, was a renowned national figure and was devoted to the social service of the country. He remained a Member of Parliament for two terms and was also the Chief Parliamentary Secretary in Sh. Lal Bahadur Shastri’s Ministry.
Led by a sense of dedication and devotion to the nation and the realization that human belongings and wealth are as ephemeral as life itself, the late Raja Lalit Sen of Suket established this college by making liberal donations in cash and the shape of buildings, a playground and extensive lands. Now, Dr. Hari Sen of Suket is the Trustee and the President of the College.
‘Maharaja Lakshman Sen Memorial College, Sundernagar
was established in 1976 by the Late Raja Lalit Sen of Suket to honour the memory
of his late father, Maharaja Lakshman Sen, by donating the palace building and the
adjoining area of about 100 bighas of land and liberal donations for the furtherance
of the spread of higher education in the State.
The vision that gave birth to the institution was to impart
a high standard of education to the youth of the state, to challenge itself and
to grow continuously to produce harmonious personalities by inculcating a spirit
of tradition and modernity.
The goal of the Founder of the college was to make the institution
a Centre of Excellence in North India and to provide an education that would enable
young people to find opportunities to make their lives meaningful and creative
in changing times.
The mission of the college is to meet challenges and strive
for perfection. The college believes in consolidation and sustainable longevity;
embodied in its motto Till Hill and River Vanish.
